There are a ton of blogs out there today about how to blog. Just do a search for Make Money Blogging or How To Start A Blog, and you’ll get millions of results. Insane!
In this highly competitive niche on how to blog, few blogs make it past the initial startup, and most don’t gain a strong following for over a year.
When I first saw the name Blogussion, I thought “oh, a pro blogger from Russia.” It turns out my brain processed Blogussian… I felt dumb when I figured out a couple of days later it was Blog Discussion. Now that I’ve confessed that I’m a dolt time to time, we can move on.
Blogussion Is The Place To Learn To Build A Blog
Site: http://www.blogussion.com
Author: Alex Fraiser and Seth Waite
Online Since: January 2009
Page Rank: 4
Alexa Rank: 27,258
Inbound links: 231/82 (source: Websitegrader.com/Alexa.com)
Pageviews per Month: 350,000 (source: google.com/adplanner)
RSS Subscribers: 762
Twitter Followers: 3971
SEO Website Grade: 93
Blogussion is one of the most script and graphic heavy blogs I visit on a daily basis. While it is definitely one of the most polished and best looking blogs around, it is a little slower loading than most.
One major thing you’ll notice is there are zero ads on their blog (and it’s not because I’m using an ad blocking program). They firmly believe and preach that ads take away from the quality of their content, and they refuse to dilute their message with ads… the rebels!
The navigation on Blogussion is pretty easy to follow. The right column has the sign-up forms for the RSS and Newsletter (nifty Java too). They highlight many of their popular posts just below the sign-ups. In the footer you can check out the Categories and get information about the authors. At the top you can easily find the About and Contact forms as well as links for information about guest posts and the authors’ favorites.
Blogussion is a collaboration of several authors, namely Seth and Alex who are very passionate about blogging. If you read Problogger or Daily Blog tips, there is a good chance you’ve read one or two of their guest posts.
The content on Blogussion is pure blog growth juice. They frequently cover topics like how to increase your traffic, how to land guest posts, how to make your blog look pretty, and how to write content that people will actually read. They even put a short summary at the end of every post for ADD people like me who need help remembering things.
For not even being a year old, there are so many articles worth reading it doesn’t make sense. For a beginning blogger trying to figure out where to start, there is probably no better blog to read than Blogussion.
Because there are so many different authors, it is hard to pick out a specific writing style, but all of their authors are well written. One should also note that Blogussion encourages guest posts, so if you have a blog you’re looking to grow, I would strongly consider considering submitting to Blogussion.

Hey – Thanks a lot for the wonderful write up about Blogussion! We love what we do and really try to meet the needs of our readers.
To answer Zeesu’s question.. we find that when you have a community of readers who are actually like reading your blog and coming back regularly, they start to build trust. This trust means that when you honestly recommend useful products or services, they are more likely to believe you and try them out. The key here is sincerity and honesty. Never misuse the trust of your readers.
Thanks again for the analysis of our blog!

Sounds like Blogussion is very up on the #3tribe attitude. Chris Brogan and Copyblogger use the same method to make money, and they do very well.
You are welcome for the review. You guys provide awesome content I think more people should be reading.

Great looking site. I haven’t been there until today and I can see the high quality of the site just at first glance. Can’t wait to dig in a bit deeper into the content.

I’m shocked that you haven’t heard of it until now. Nick from Site Sketch and the guys are Blogussion do a lot of cross posting (even if they aren’t guest posts, they might just be talking about the same topics).
I think you’re really going to like it there. They have a very purist view toward blogging. True content marketing at work imo.

That’s what I like to hear. One of the main purposes of this website is to point out new awesome resources. Blogussion is a great one.

Hey Blake!
I really appreciate this review! I have read it about three times now and it just really makes me feel great about what I am doing online and motivated me to keep going.
Just gotta let you know – I have a head a lot of funny ways of people pronouncing the name of the blog, but never heard Blogussian!
I do agree that the blog does go pretty heavy on graphics and the new features on jQuery. I really am trying to make the blog load faster by using less plugins and removing things from the head tag to decrease loading times.
I like how you highlighted the idea that we are ad free. Now that I come to think of it, it has been brought up multiples times from different people over the last few days! I’m just surprised the idea has gotten so much attention.
Thanks again for the review, I really got excited when I checked my email this morning and saw I had a trackback with the title of this post in it!
PS: Our traffic unfortunately isn’t quite 350k a month! Alright, I’ll be honest – it’s nowhere near that. That tool you have is pretty wack! But everything else is right.

@ Alex – I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the review. That’s 1/3 of what this site is all about, so it was my pleasure.
Just keep pumping out that great content so I don’t regret calling you the best blog for new bloggers to read!
I used Google Adplanner to get the 350k pageviews per month. At your Alexa rank, I wouldn’t be shocked. I wonder how Google Adplanner ended up being so far off. Do you use analytics?

To start earning money with your blog, initially use Google Adsense but gradually as your traffic increases, keep adding more and more money making programs to your site.

Alex is awesome. I had a problem setting up my subscribe box (because I am stupid and forgot the semi-colon), and Alex was quick to diagonose the problem and show me how to format my code better.
He’s a great guy. Mad Props to him!
