Props to Seth Godin – Sales Marketing Guru

You know those people who make you feel smarter just having talked to them.  It’s like your IQ went up 10 points after talking to them…  That’s how I feel when I read Seth Godin’s Blog.  I honestly have no idea where I heard about his blog, but whoever told me about it deserves a pat on the back!

The first thing you notice when you go to his blog is how simple it is.  I’m no expert (yet), but I’m pretty sure the few ads that he has are all CPA ads for marketing books.  Ironically, Seth is quick to admit that marketing tactics that are only one year old might be completely outdated.  Perhaps the biggest theme in Seth’s post is showing the customer real value and giving excellent customer service; they seem obvious, but sometime marketers get caught up in gimmicks and forget to showcase the real value of their product or service.

Another common mistake I’ve noticed marketers make is getting stuck in the same mindset.  They might use a different medium of advertisement, but their tactics do not adapt to the ever changing market.  Seth brilliantly gives marketers tools see the rut they are stuck in and methods to get to the bottom of the problem.  Just in the last 7 days he has written a couple articles like this: When tactics down out strategy and Bear shaving.  Seth also illustrates value using clear, easy to understand examples like Fidelity vs. Convenience and High Definition.

He doesn’t allow for comments on his page, but there are usually a handful of commenter on Digg.  Marketing ideas are this guy’s passion.  None of his posts take more than 5 minutes to read, so don’t miss out and check it out!

Also, a little teaser for some upcoming content, I have a few friends in the modeling and photography world;  I’ll be aiming to post an interview (along with pictures) of at least one model, photographer, MUA, or stylist per week.  The first interview will be with Leah Waddill (who will likely be the one conducting future interviews).

If you check out Seth’s Blog and enjoy it, leave me a comment and let me know!

    Sweetie,
    I read the content on your blog. I wanted to make you aware that there is a period on the end of your blog address. That may stop you from getting the desired traffic onto your site. I’ll stop back in later and review tings again. Good Blog. :}

    Hi Blake… spot on. Seth Godin is the man for sure… I changed a lot of things after I read The Purple Cow and The Big Moo. He certainly knows how to marketing and the fact that he started Squidoo Lens … Shows that… Thank you for a great Blog Post… Regards Stefan Berg

    Stefan – I haven’t had a chance to read his books, but they are definitely on the top of my to do list. With as much as I get from his blog, I can’t imagine how much more I’ll get from his books! While some of the media might be outdated, the prinicpals of his marketing content will never be outdated. I also saw that you have a blog yourself. I just skimmed over it this morning, but I’m excited to read more tonight!
