Sponsored Twitter to make Money on Twitter

It seems like just yesterday I was giving props to Twitter for it’s unique advertising power.  Today, I found out about Sponsored Tweets!  Sponsored tweets is a newly launched program that allows companies the opportunity to sponsor a tweet from a popular Twitter user.  The minimum requirements to become a sponsored tweeter are 100 followers and your Twitter account being at least 120 days old.  Advertisers may approach you to tweet before your account is 120 days old, but your name will not be on their search list (which makes it unlikely that they will contact you).

The sign up only takes about 5 minutes and everything is extremely straight forward.  The awesome thing about sponsored tweets is you get to set your own price per tweet and per click.  Then you add a few keywords and you are ready to rock.  If you are John Chow and have nearly 60,000 followers, you can charge $150-$250 per tweet!  I am sure some of the other sponsored tweeters like Carrot Top make more than that.  Some marketers require you to tweet exactly what they ask, others leave exactly what is tweeted up to you.  Either way, you get to make the final approval for the message.

I’m really excited about the earning opportunity of sponsored tweets.  If you get a chance sign up and see if you can make money tweeting too!

EDIT: I know some people might be having a hard time getting lots of followers.  An awesome resourse for getting extra followers is Twitter Follower. I have been using this for about 3 weeks now, and I usually get 25-50 new followers per day.  Trading follows is one of the fastest ways to build followers, but they aren’t targeted, so you probably won’t get as much ROI with those followers and organically generated followers.

You decide how much you want to get paid per tweet. I saw someone earlier today with about 5000 followers and he said he was getting paid $12 per tweet. When you sign up there will be an option for you to pick how much it cost per tweet. Then you pick an additional cost per click (meaning that you make even more money for every person that actually follows the link from your tweet). Pretty good deal in my book. I think setting the amount too low will make companies think your tweet isn’t valuable, but setting it too high might run other companies off. I guess you’ll just have to play with it!

@John, Twitter is a social networking tool where you are able to use 140 characters to answer the question “what are you doing?” putting stuff like reading propsblog.com is a way that you can advertise your site ;-)

@Letupdate – It looks like your blog is already starting very well without twitter. If you haven’t already started using twitter, it is a great way to start to connect with other people in the blogging community.

@Dayo – the site I linked at the bottom is an easy way to get a lot of followers quickly. they have agreed to follow anyone that follows them, so you can rack up followers very quickly if you want. You could also google how to get more followers on twitter and get hundreds of well written blog articles. I wouldn’t pay for anything unless you try for a month and have no luck.

@Irfan I watched a couple of your videos and found them to be very informative. Do you ever watch the food network? I love the Next Food Network Star… that show is addictive. The girl that won this last season lives about an hour from me!

@Akvasu77 – hit me up on twitter at twitter.com/propsblog. There’s lots of fun things to chat about if you’re following the right people.

@juna – I LOVE your tshirts. I’ll definitely checking out your page often. Its actually a really great idea. the “whales” of the twitter community have an awesome click through rate which means 1 tweet could mean hundreds or even thousands of very audience specific hits.

  15. Blake Waddill Says:

I did get a lot of followers using the Twitter follow .. I’d say I’m gaining followers at a rate of about 800-900/month. Honestly, the quality of the followers is lacking though. I’d say only about 1/4 of them aren’t spam. That is typical in any follow trading scheme though. Trading follows is one of the fastest ways to build a following, but it doesn’t always target followers well. I have read a couple of great article son makeuseof.com about how to get the most from your following and follower list.

  16. Kim Dion Says:

I have over 5,000 tweets and from what I can tell I only get about 7 click from any one tweet I send out. On one of my tweet account when I have really targeted followers I can get up to 35 clicks on one tweet…go figure. I wonder if that matters..seems to me if a person has a random large follower list that does not mean an advertiser will benefit.

I will sign up I wonder who will click on my tweet from anyone my 5,000 was added randomly and I do not have time to build relationshipe when you grow a twitter list on automatically…

Advice..it is best to grow you twitter list slowly and choose you followers wisely..someone who is interested in your industry, product, service or interest…

    Great article…
